Bike – We have a great selection of bikes for sale to match riders of any skill level or budget. We carry Norco, Yeti, Kona, Pivot, Scott, Mondraker, Transition and Redline BMX. Our professional bicycle mechanics will help you form the best plan to rebuild your old bike, or they will build you your new dream bike. Our staff ride A LOT, we know the trails, and we love helping people get to their next level in their riding. Helping you get to the next level may mean coaching you on technique in the parking lot, or it could be lessons on trail side bike repair. When possible, we enjoy helping improve your bike for free in the parking lot – if it is a bigger job, drop your bike off with our team and we will get it fixed and/or updated. Our customers may stop by our store for our convenient location, the proximity to great trails and bike paths, or because we carry top brand bikes. However, they return for the high quality of customer service and mentorship.

Ski, Splitboard & Snowboard – In the winter, our passion is backcountry Skiing (Alpine Touring and Telemark) and Splitboarding. We sell all the gear needed to get out into the backcountry – Skis & Splitboards, Avalanche Safety Gear, Boots, poles, and more. We have a wide selection of excellent ski and snowboard boots, and we know how to fit them properly. Our staff ski both backcountry and the resort and they understand the need for equipment that works well in both places. We offer everything from heavy duty downhill, to performance backcountry touring, to super light ski touring. After 25 years, we know the industry. We experiment with every brand, but we won’t experiment with you. The equipment we promote is proven quality gear that we use ourselves. We won’t sell you gear you don’t need – we will sell you the same gear we use that’s in the back of our cars!

Climb – We have world-class granite climbing located within five miles of our store. Are you in Truckee/Tahoe to climb ? Are you on your way to Tuolumne Meadows or the East Side Sierra? Stop by our store for advice on routes or to grab the gear you have lost, forgot, or worn to shreds. Visit local 5 star climbing meccas like Lover’s Leap, Woodfords, Phantom Spires, Sugarloaf, Shirley Canyon, Big Chief, Coldstream Canyon, and more. It’s endless. Fred Becky would say “there is more good granite rock in California than the rest of the world combined”. Weather you sport or trad climb, we have the gear that will not only protect you, but help you get up those crags with confidence. Donner Summit is 2 miles up the road, offering easy access, friendly locals, and a thousands worthy climbs.  We sell Black Diamond, Mammut, Sterling, La Sportiva, Camp,  Petzl and Metolius.

Backpacking & Camping Gear – We are passionate about outdoor adventures, from long multi-night treks, to one nighters in the woods. The beauty of backpacking is it’s simplicity – venturing into the wilderness with nothing but the gear on your back. Let us help you find the most efficient backpack and camping gear to your trip an experience to remember. Whether you are hiking the entirety of the Pacific Crest Trail or doing an overnight camping trip, it is essential to pack only what you need. When backpacking, ounces becomes pounds and pounds become pain! We have the proper gear for all kinds of backpacking trips. We sell water purifiers, freeze-dried food, sleeping bags and mats, and all the necessary gear you will need.

When you come to the BackCountry our staff will offer you advice from their first hand experiences. We are bikers, skiers, climbers and hikers. We have the experience, we have the knowledge and we don’t just sell the products in our store, we use them. We sell the essential gear and equipment you need for the activities you do at a price you can afford.
