STAFF PICK
We need a lot of boot brands to entice customers to visit our shop. However, if I could only sell one boot, it would be the Tecnica Zero G. It's the best overall boot and satisfies most often. I will say the one weak point is the walk mode range isn't great on flat terrain. You have to loosen the boot up and still I wish I had more. I accept this because they fit and ski so well. Zero G is lighter than any competitor given the same performance. The soles are shaped just right for backcountry ski missions too.
I ski the softer version of this boot and find them to give me all the support I need, no matter how steep and sketchy. You ski slow and carefully in those places while ski touring, right? You should. if you are a charger, get the Pro model here. Many of my touring partners love these boots and ski well with them, even though we are just bouncing around down 35-degree terrain in nice, untracked snow most of the time. These boots really hold your heel in the pocket better than any boot we have ever found. Backcountry skiing doesn't work if you get blisters 10 minutes into the day.
I weigh 165 and find the Zero G Scout 120 flex boots to be almost too stiff, so I use the Tour model even at the ski area. I'm old and slow admittedly. I make up for that in enthusiasm. Get the stiffer models if you are a ripper. Most of our store customers buy the Scout or Pro models and are really happy with them. Stiffer boots are fine during the climb because you have the buckles loose. If you are happy with 120 or 130 flex boots at the ski area, then I guess buy those from us. If you used to tele ski, or you don't know what flex level means, get these guys here and save a few hundred bucks!
I say if you are buying boots on the internet without talking to me, just buy Tecnica Zero G. They have the best chance of fitting everyone. Better yet, text or email me a picture of your feet for boot suggestions. And last thing, the Zero G touring boots are narrower and lower volume than most every other boot. Oddly they work out on so many people. But think about it. Do you want a huge fat heavy shell and thick liner? That won't ski well. You want the ideal curved boot with some boot fitter mods. Zero G boots take re-shaping very well. The plastic is thin enough to manipulate easily.

FROM THE MANUFACTURER
For backcountry skiers who are tired of compromising on performance to save weight, The Zero G Tour Scout comes in at just 1,360g and is designed for advanced skiers who are looking for a more forgiving flex but still want to send it in the backcountry. Thanks to a polyurethane cuff, Grilamid shell and an uber-wide 55-degree range of motion, the Tour Scout can rip up the skin track with the best of them. And yet, when you lock down the four buckles for the descent, the Zero G Tour Scout’s 120 flex shines, making this touring boot super fun and stable for the downhill.
FEATURES
C.A.S Shell |
The C.A.S. Shell has an anatomical shape that matches the shape of the foot. This allows for a better out-of-the box initial fit. The dimples on the shell offer less surface tension and facilitate heating, making customizing the shell easier. The shell retains the new shape better and longer. Shell Features
